WISHH Baby Loss Appeal reaches £60,000
The WISHH Baby Loss Appeal has raised over £60,000 to date as we strive to reach our £100,000 target to enable us to enhance the bereavement facilities across Hull Women and Children’s Hospital.
The appeal will enable WISHH to:
- Enhance six quiet rooms within the Women and Children’s Hospital
- Refurbish the bereavement suite enabling families to make precious memories with their baby
- Improve the entrance and exit to the early pregnancy unit
Over the coming weeks, we are going to be sharing stories of our supporters and why they have chosen to support the appeal… We would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported our appeal so far.
Introducing Adam Haldenby
Adam took part in the Wolds Way Ultra 50km trail run which reached a 3,000ft elevation to support the appeal. This challenge helped Adam focus on his own physical and mental recovery following the loss of two babies. After 20 weeks of training, Adam completed the race in 5 hours and 39 minutes, placing 33rd out of 200 runners.

Adam said, “In 2024, my wife, Nicole and I faced the heartbreak of losing two babies, each loss a separate, devastating moment. Both times, we sat in ultrasound rooms alongside expectant parents, surrounded by hope while we received shattering news.
“When our second daughter was born in December 2024, it was in the same ward as other new mothers. We could hear the cries of new-borns while coming to terms with our own loss. The contrast was almost unbearable, adding a layer of pain to an already traumatic experience.
“When I heard about the WISHH Charity’s appeal to give families going through difficult moments the space they need, I knew I had to support it by taking part a 50km trail run.
So far, I have raised £1,000, and I’m planning more fundraising efforts throughout the year, and possibly a larger event in autumn or winter.
This cause is deeply personal to Nicole and I. If you’re able to support or share the appeal, it would mean a great deal, not just to us, but to many others who may walk a similar path. To support me visit: https://www.justgiving.com/page/adam-haldenby-1734115867916

Why this appeal matters
- Over 100 families have used the current bereavement suite over the last 12 months
- One in four parents suffer early miscarriage
- Creating a dedicated entrance and exit to the Women and Children’s hospital will reduce the number of encounters families have with other expectant families
