WISHH Baby Loss Appeal receives funding boost
We’re incredibly grateful to Sasha Larsen, who has raised an amazing £4,471 in loving memory of her baby girl, Gia, in support of the WISHH Charity Baby Loss Appeal.
This generous contribution brings us closer to our £100,000 target to enhance bereavement services at Hull’s Women and Children’s Hospital. Sasha recently visited the hospital to learn more about the planned improvements, which include:
- Refurbishment and soundproofing of the Bereavement Suite
- Creation of a private entrance and exit to the Early Pregnancy Unit
- Six quiet rooms for families within the Women and Children’s Hospital
Sasha described her fundraising achievement as a “proud and bittersweet moment”, and said the plans were “absolutely amazing”. She and her family are deeply moved that work will begin soon, and they’re passionate about the difference these changes will make for other families facing similar heartbreak.
Sasha said: “My experience at the hospital with Gia made me realise how vital these upgrades are. There was little privacy while grieving, with the sounds of other mothers and newborns nearby — showing the need for soundproof rooms. Leaving without my baby while others left with theirs highlighted the importance of a separate private exit. And in scan areas, families receiving devastating news shouldn’t have to sit among expectant mothers — quiet rooms with facilities are desperately needed.”
“Wanting to give something back, I began fundraising and will continue to raise funds so that these refurbishments can make a devastating experience a little more gentle and bring comfort to the families who sadly have to use the suite and rooms.”
Sasha is already planning further fundraising events and encourages others who’ve experienced baby loss to support the appeal. Together, we can create a more compassionate and private space for families during the most difficult moments of their lives.
Why This Appeal Matters
- Over 100 families have used the current Bereavement Suite in the past year
- 1 in 4 parents experience early miscarriage
- A dedicated entrance and exit will help families avoid distressing encounters with other expectant parents
